International students are encouraged to schedule appointments with International Student Advisors (ISA) as needed. During an appointment, the International Student Advisor will review and discuss a student’s: immigration concerns, academic policies and how they relate to the student’s immigration status, intercultural adjustment, on and off-campus resources, employment, personal concerns, financial issues, and advocacy. International Student Advisors also serve as cultural guides for international students by connecting students with appropriate offices and resources on campus.
Be prepared to provide a short, detailed description about the type of appointment you are requesting when scheduling your appointment either by telephone at (210) 458-7202 or via email at InternationalPrograms@utsa.edu. You may also include the name of the International Student Services staff member with whom you wish to meet. We will try to accommodate your requests as best as possible but based on availability you may be assigned to the advisor most readily available.

ISS Front Desk staff are available to provide guidance on average processing times and to discuss how much time you might need for your specific appointment. Please be prepared to tell Front Desk staff the nature of the appointment. If your reason is confidential, simply tell the staff.
Students arriving more than 10 minutes after their scheduled appointment time may be asked to reschedule or only be able to meet for the time remaining for their appointment. This policy ensures that each student is able to meet with their advisor at the time they originally scheduled. Due to the time limitations of these appointments, you may be asked to schedule a follow-up meeting.
International student appointments fall into one of three timeframes:
* Change of status, reinstatement, and OPT Extension application sessions may require multiple appointments to follow-up. Discuss with your advisor in your first meeting.
International students may cancel appointments by telephone at (210) 458-7202 or via email at InternationalPrograms@utsa.edu, up to 24 hours in advance of their appointment.
Please contact the ISS Front Desk at (210) 458-7202 if you need to cancel an appointment on the same day of the appointment.
Appointments are available with International Student Advisors by telephone for those students/alumni who are living or working outside of the San Antonio metro area. This is particularly common for alumni requesting OPT STEM Extensions.
When scheduling your appointment, clearly indicate in the comments section that this is a telephone appointment and provide a U.S. telephone number for the ISA.
Certain documentation may need to be received 1-2 business days prior to your appointment. Documents can be received by postal mail or by email at InternationalPrograms@utsa.edu.

If you are/have been hospitalized or arrested, have received an I-515A, have an I-20/DS-2019 program expiring in less than 5 business days and need a program extension, or will be travelling internationally in less than 24 hours: please notify the ISS Front Desk staff by calling (210) 458-7202.
With over 1,500 international students, ISS does its best to respond to requests timely. Please assist us by submitting all requests with as much advance notice as possible. Same day appointments are available only in specific situations.

International students may come in Tuesday-Thursday for a walk-in appointment in the morning between 9:00am to 11:00am or in the afternoon from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
Only specific issues can be addressed during a walk-in appointment due to the time constraints and to minimize the wait time to see an advisor. Additionally, students cannot request to see a specific ISA during walk-in hours.
For efficiency International Student Services has also made it easier for international students to submit the letter request form online. You can make an online submission to through your ASAP account.
NOTE: To meet your needs in a timely manner, we request that you plan in advance and provide as much advance notice as possible.
Sponsored Student Advising Hours:

Walk-in appointments are available for emergency requests and/or brief advising and are limited to 20 minutes maximum.
