Insurance is required for students studying abroad at UTSA. You may not study abroad if you do not provide UTSA proof of international medical insurance. This requirement will be covered in detail during pre-departure orientation.
Three options for health insurance:
- HTH Worldwide, (Group access code ELJ-8073)
- $100,00 coverage for approximately $35 per month
- No out-of-pocket expense if HTH network is used
- Pre-existing conditions, mental health and prescription drugs covered
- Affiliated program provider insurance
- Must have at least $100,000 worth of medical coverage
- You have to provide a letter indicating proof of coverage amount (at least $100,000)
- Your current medical insurance
- Must meet requirements as stated on Health Insurance Checklist form
- You have to provide a letter from the health insurance provider stating it meets all of the requirements
o The medical coverage is valid internationally; and
o There is at least $100,000 worth of coverage. A “Lifetime Maximum of X” amount is not sufficient; “Unlimited” coverage is sufficient; and
o Emergency of Out of Network coverage must be defined by the insurance company and state that it covers all medical expenses outside of the United States while traveling.
