Before You Attend Orientation
Required Items
All new students must make sure that they have completed the following items before they attend orientation:
- Apply for your F-1 or J-1 visa as soon as you receive your I-20 or DS-2019 Form
1. Pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee
The SEVIS I-901 fee is required for all F and J visa students. Without the fee payment, you will not be eligible to apply for your F-1/J-1 visa. Learn more about the SEVIS I-901 fee. Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee online at FMJfee.com.
2. Apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa at an American embassy or consulate
After paying the I-901 fee and getting a receipt, you can apply for a visa at an American embassy or consulate. The following links will assist with the visa application process.
· J visa (http://travel.state.gov)
· F visa (http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html)
- Make your travel arrangements
Plan to arrive in time to attend New International Student Orientation. Check the orientation date.
If you arrive late, you may not have enough time to complete all of your needed requirements. As a consequence, you may be unable to register for classes. This will negatively affect your visa status.
- Activate your myUTSA ID. Check your registration holds in the Automated Student Access Program (ASAP)
Registration holds on your student account are requirements to complete before you can register for classes. You can check your registration holds in ASAP. To access your ASAP account, you first need to activate your myUTSA ID (abc123).
Check your email you listed on your admission application. You should have received an email from .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with a link to activate your myUTSA ID. You will be asked to verify your identity before activating your myUTSA ID. Once you have activated your myUTSA ID, you will be able to access ASAP and use its services.
If you have trouble logging into ASAP, contact Enrollment Services at (210) 458-8000.
- Complete health requirements before orientation!
The State of Texas has required that in order to register for classes all students under the age of 30 are required to document their Meningococcal Meningitis immunization.
You must receive Meningococcal Meningitis immunization at least ten (10) days before the semester start date. It is highly recommended that you complete this requirement in your home country.
Deadlines for Meningococcal Meningitis Immunization are:

Fall 2013 semester: August 18, 2013
Submit proof of your Meningococcal immunization records to Student Health Services by email or fax by the deadlines. Your immunization records must be translated in English.

Student Health Services does not accept these tests:
