Announcement: New Student Immigration Check-In

Remember to complete Immigration Check-in once you arrive in the US.

Immigration Check-In (REQUIRED after your arrival in the US)

1. Once you arrived in the United States, make sure to complete the immigration check-in

requirement by logging into the Student Request Portal. Portal: https://international.utsa.edu/

2. After completing immigration check-in, download or pick up “continued attendance I-20 with

travel signature”

Enrollment Requirements

1. Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours

a. Minimum of 9 credit hours must be in-person or hybrid (FF, H1, H2, HB, or ID)

b. Maximum of 1 online course per 12 credit hours (OA, OS, or OH)

2. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours

a. Minimum of 6 credit hours must be in-person or hybrid (FF, H1, H2, HB, or ID)

b. Maximum of 1 online course per 9 credit hours (OA, OS, or OH)

3. Academic English Program students must be enrolled in at least 4 courses

Social Security (You must have completed immigration check-in)

- Students who have an on-campus job but do not have a social security number will need to

request a social security number.

1. log in to the Student Request Portal and complete the SSN letter request option for social security.

2. After you are notified that the letter is ready, pick up the letter from the International Services office at Graduate School and Research Building, GSR 2.116

3. Apply for the SSN at one of the Social Security Administration Offices around San Antonio. SSA Office Locator

Texas Driver’s License or Texas ID

1. log in to the Student Request Portal and complete the TXDL letter request option for DMV or ID

2. After you are notified that the letter is ready, download or pick up the letter from the International Services office at Graduate School and Research Building, GSR 2.116

3. visit the DPS website to schedule your appointment for a driver’s license or Texas ID: https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license

Documents required: Passport, I-94, I-20, letter form ISSS, and proof of address in Texas

Health Insurance

1. Fall coverage begins August 1 and ends December 31

2. Spring-Summer coverage begins January 1 and ends August 31

3. Visit our student portal’s insurance section to access all necessary information

4. Insurance cards will be mailed to the address listed in your myUTSA account. If this address is

incorrect, make sure to update it as soon as possible to avoid losing the insurance card and other

important documents.
